JB Mauney Gives Bull Riding Fans Updates on His Comeback Months After Announcement of Retirement
Months After Announcing Retirement, JB Mauney Drops Comeback Updates for Bull Riding Fans
In September last year, JB Mauney etched a void in the bull-riding industry when he incurred an injury prompting his retirement decision. The industry icon and two-time PBR World Champion injured his neck during a wreck at an event that pulled a stop on his career. However, just as the multiple record-holder’s exit brought along somber emotions, a new update on the way wasn’t far in lightening up the industry.

The PBR recently announced that its much-loved Team Series will be incurring two more teams to the campaign: New York Mavericks and Oklahoma Wildcatters. With the excitement of the same soaring high, JB Mauney topped it off with his news reveal as head coach of one team.
JB Mauney lightens up the industry
A couple of days after PBR announced that it would be expanding the league to include two more teams, the Oklahoma Wildcatters wasted no time in adding on to the excitement. “He’s baaaaaaaaaaccccccckkkkk!” they wrote on Tuesday, tagging along a picture of JB Mauney. “Oklahoma Wildcatters first-ever head coach,” they further added. Following his 2-decade career in the industry, this would be the first time Mauney will be assuming the role of a coach.
“I’ve faced some of the toughest bulls in the world and come out on top,” JB Mauney said in a release. “Coaching the Oklahoma Wildcatters is a new challenge, but I’m ready to bring my experience and passion for bull riding to this team and help shape the next generation of champions.” Helping him further with the goal will be Brandon Bates, as general manager. The two’s combination will surely tick all the necessary boxes needed for a team to mark the beginning of the celebrated league.
Wildcatters to prepare for the bull riding spectacle
The team series was started as an uncertainty, a new experiment in the PBR circuit. But 2 years into the showcase, bull riding fans go gaga over the camaraderie and the excitement the campaign carries. Oklahoma Wildcatters’ inclusivity in the framework of new talents, team spirit, and nail-biting showdowns, would thus welcome needed expertise and experience from JB Mauney, the legend and Bates, a voice of PBR for the past two decades.
The Wildcatters will start off their season on July 12-14 within Paycom Centre, in hopes of presenting a spectacle. Ahead of the first home ground spectacle, the Wildcatters will look to fetch their riders representing Oklahoma and all the bull riding passion it carries. To get in the process of it, JB Mauney and Brandon Bates will strategize to scout and select the best 6 at the 2024 Expansion Draft in April, New York.
