Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has suggested Man City could be willing to reach a settlement with the Premier League in their 115 charges fight.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – claimed City “can’t keep fighting these battles” as it is harming their “global public images

Keith Wyness: Man City could now pay ‘unlimited…

Man City and the Premier League started their 115 charges face-off in secret in central London last week (16 September), with the hearing expected to go on for around 10 weeks.

Wyness has previously told Football Insider (25 September) that “relegation down a league or two” is now “likely” for City after what he has heard about the case.

Pep Guardiola’s side have won the Premier League title in the last four seasons and are favourites to seal a record fifth straight success this term.

Wyness claimed it is likely that both sides will present “very good cases” in front of the independent commission.

He told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “I think the Premier League definitely want to get this over with and learn better lessons on how to regulate the game.“Man City can’t keep fighting these battles. PR wise and from a global public image point of view, they know they’ve got to put this to bed.

“It’s in everyone’s interest to get this solved, it’s gone on for so long.

“But if there’s a settlement, there has to be a clear reason. It could be that both sides have got very good cases.

“I hope common sense will prevail.

“I think Man City would settle and take a penalty. I’d love to be a fly on the wall in these hearings.

“Nevertheless, it’s all going to come out in the wash – and hopefully it won’t drag on for years, as it may well do.”
