Sam Allardyce Warns Manchester United That Selling Star Midfielder Would Be a ‘Big Disaster’

Former Premier League manager Sam Allardyce has warned Manchester United that selling Scott McTominay would be a significant setback. The Scotland midfielder, who has made over 250 appearances for United, is rumored to be a target for several Premier League clubs, including Fulham, Tottenham, and Galatasaray.

Allardyce described the potential sale of McTominay as a “big disaster” for United manager Erik ten Hag. He argued that McTominay has become a crucial player for the team and a reliable goalscorer for both club and country, making his departure particularly detrimental.

In addition to his concerns about McTominay, Allardyce shared his views on United’s prospects for the 2024-25 season. He expressed doubts about Ten Hag’s ability to lead the team successfully, citing a “sneaky suspicion” that Ten Hag may have lost the dressing room towards the end of last season. Allardyce emphasized the importance of unity between the manager, players, and staff for achieving success in the Premier League.

Allardyce noted that Manchester United could surprise many if they manage to secure a top-two finish, but he stressed that achieving this would require full support and cohesion within the team. He believes that any disruption, such as McTominay’s potential departure, could hinder their chances.

Ten Hag has addressed the speculation about McTominay’s future, affirming his value to the squad. He highlighted McTominay’s impressive performance last season and his ability to contribute significantly, including his role in scoring during the Community Shield shootout. Despite interest from other clubs, Ten Hag emphasized the importance of keeping McTominay due to his impact on the team.
