Brighton 2-1 Manchester United: Joao Pedro Scores Late Winner as Welbeck & Amad Diallo Net

In an intense Premier League clash at the Amex Stadium, Brighton secured a dramatic 2-1 victory over Manchester United, thanks to a late winner from Joao Pedro.

The match kicked off with early chances for both sides, as Brighton’s Joao Pedro attempted a shot from distance in the 10th minute, but it sailed wide. Manchester United responded quickly with a great opportunity for Amad Diallo, who couldn’t convert in the 11th minute.

Brighton took the lead in the 32nd minute when Danny Welbeck found himself completely unmarked and calmly slotted the ball past André Onana, making it 1-0. Manchester United thought they had equalized just two minutes later when Marcus Rashford found the back of the net, but the goal was ruled out for offside.

The second half saw Manchester United come out with renewed determination. In the 52nd minute, Diogo Dalot made a crucial goal-line clearance to keep United in the game. Brighton nearly doubled their lead in the 55th minute, but Welbeck’s header was superbly saved by Onana. Just three minutes later, Welbeck rattled the crossbar, leaving Manchester United fortunate to still be in the contest.

United’s persistence paid off in the 60th minute when Amad Diallo finally found the equalizer, slotting the ball home to make it 1-1. With momentum on their side, United pushed for a winner, but Brighton held firm.

As the match seemed destined for a draw, Joao Pedro emerged as Brighton’s hero, scoring the decisive goal late on to seal a 2-1 victory for the Seagulls.

Brighton’s starting XI included Milner, Steele, Welbeck, Veltman, Dunk, Mitoma, Gilmour, Van Hecke, Joao Pedro, Minteh, and Hinshelwood. Manchester United lined up with Casemiro, Maguire, Fernandes, Onana, Mount, Mazraoui, Dalot, Rashford, Martinez, Amad Diallo, and Mainoo.

This result gives Brighton a crucial three points as they continue their impressive start to the 2024/2025 Premier League season, while Manchester United will be left to rue their missed opportunities.
