Manchester United were held to a frustrating 1-1 draw by FC Twente in their opening clash of the 2024/25 Europa League campaign.

(A score of 6 is around average)

Andre Onana 5 – Had a quiet game up until Twente restored parity. Didn’t cover himself in glory for the goal as Sam Lammers easily hoodwinked him.

Noussair Mazraoui 7 – Some important defensive interceptions and tackles, especially in the immediate moments after United conceded. Very good in possession and dealt well with a tricky Mitchell van Bergen.

Harry Maguire 6 – Comfortable game. Did his job well and was defensively resolute.

Lisandro Martinez 6 – Made decent contributions in both boxes. Played out well from the back but received a reckless yellow card.

Diogo Dalot 5 – Didn’t support Rashford nearly as much as he should have. Also let off the hook by Sem Steijn in the first half.

Manuel Ugarte 5 – Mixed game. Not the most expansive passer of the ball and was caught in possession once or twice. He however made some brilliant tackles in the middle of the park

Christian Eriksen 5 -Grabbed United’s opener via a fantastic finish from inside the box. He was cruising until he made an extremely costly mistake that directly led to Twente finding the back of the net.

Bruno Fernandes 3 – Sloppy performance. Gave the ball away on numerous occasions and wasted one or two good set pieces by way of poor execution. Lacked any of the imagination and creativity that usually characterises his game and should have easily been one of the first players off.

Marcus Rashford 8 – United’s main source of threat before his substitution. Played with swagger and confidence. Looked really sharp and put a brilliant cross into the danger area. Also nutmegged a Twente player with an elastico. Combined well with Zirkzee.

Joshua Zirkzee 7 – Excellent link-up play and did well in his efforts to hold up the ball. Had a few half-chances to score but he couldn’t make any of his opportunities stick.

Amad Diallo 6 – Decent performance and kept the ball well.
