Breaking News: The loss of Andre Onana to the African Cup of Nations in January and February caused Manchester United to accept defeat
The 27-year-old player transferred to the Red Devils from Inter Milan in the previous summer’s transfer window. He has participated in every minute of the club’s matches in all competitions this season.
Manager Erik ten Hag has thus far declined to rotate his goalkeeper, but he may be compelled to do so in the New Year as a result of Onana’s obligations to the national team.
The ex-Ajax player has not yet determined if he will participate in AFCON if he receives a call-up.
According to ESPN, Manchester United have accepted the fact that they will lose goalkeeper Andre Onana to the Cameroon national team for the African Cup of Nations, which will take place from January to February.
Furthermore, Altay Bayindir, who was signed during the summer, has made a strong impression during training sessions. The Turkish player has the potential to make his first appearance for the team when Onana is unavailable in the beginning of 2024.
Onana may be absent for a maximum of seven matches due to his participation in AFCON.
The Cameroonian football legend announced his retirement from international competition after the conclusion of the World Cup in Qatar last year, citing a disagreement with head coach Rigobert Song that occurred during the group stage.
Nevertheless, he agreed to return in September and participated in the complete 90-minute duration of a crucial AFCON qualifier against Burundi in Garoua.
