David Ornstein confirms potential Premier League comeback for Manchester City icon

Manchester City legend Ilkay Gundogan is attracting interest from Premier League clubs as he considers leaving Barcelona this summer. The 33-year-old, who ended his time with City at the close of the 2022/23 season, is reportedly negotiating an exit from Barcelona due to the club’s financial struggles, which have also impacted their ability to register new signings like Dani Olmo.

Manchester City, where Gundogan enjoyed significant success, is one of the clubs linked with a potential reunion. However, they might face competition from other Premier League teams, as well as clubs from Turkey, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia.

David Ornstein of The Athletic reports that Gundogan is evaluating his options, with several clubs showing interest. While Manchester City is known to be exploring midfield options, including Newcastle’s Bruno Guimaraes and Crystal Palace’s Eberechi Eze, both of whom have seen their release clauses expire, it’s uncertain if City will move for Gundogan.

City’s current midfield lineup, including Mateo Kovacic, Nico O’Reilly, and Rico Lewis, may suffice for this season, but the club could consider reinforcements in the next transfer window.
