Dominik Szoboszlai felt Liverpool once again showed their desire as they emerged from a ‘hard fight’ against Sheffield United with a victory.
Three days on from the dramatic 4-3 defeat of Fulham at Anfield, the Reds added three more points to their Premier League total by seeing off the Blades 2-0.
Virgil van Dijk had opened the scoring with an excellent strike in the first half, though the contest then remained in the balance until stoppage time.
With 94 on the clock, Szoboszlai found space inside the opposition box to smash in the visitors’ second goal and seal the win.
“It was a hard fight, everyone could see that from outside but inside it feels even tougher,” the Hungarian told Liverpoolfc.com post-match.
“But we just did our best and in the end we could take the three points, which is the most important thing.”
On registering a first clean sheet of the campaign away from home, he continued: “Very well done from Caoimhin [Kelleher] and also from the back four as well and probably from the whole team.
“We are attacking together, defending together and we are fighting together – so this shows how much we want it.”
Szoboszlai’s emphatic clincher at Bramall Lane on Wednesday night was assisted by some excellent build-up work from Darwin Nunez.
The substitute won back possession in the opposition half with a sliding tackle and then picked out his teammate in front of goal with an angled pass.
‘I’m really pleased with the result’
“A good reaction from him,” reflected Szoboszlai. “He won the ball back and then played me on the other side. I was just waiting there to hopefully get the ball and a good pass from him.”
Liverpool’s third Premier League fixture in the space of a week now comes quickly as Jürgen Klopp’s men travel to Crystal Palace for Saturday’s 12.30pm GMT kick-off.
“To be honest, it feels like we could play tomorrow but probably not the best idea because we would be tired!” finished the No.8.
“But we are looking forward to the next game and hopefully taking another three points.”
