Erik ten Hag Must Address Three Key Areas to Avoid Manchester United Sack INEOS Sets Clear Targets
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag must address three critical areas to secure his position beyond this season, as noted by Lee Sharpe. Following a disappointing 2023/24 campaign, where United finished eighth in the Premier League with 14 defeats and only 57 goals, INEOS has outlined clear expectations for improvement.
Though Ten Hag ended the season on a high with an FA Cup victory, the team’s overall performance left much to be desired. Their poor league showing and early Champions League exit raised questions about his future. Reports suggest that missing out on Champions League qualification won’t automatically lead to Ten Hag’s dismissal, provided there is noticeable progress on the pitch.
Sharpe emphasizes that Ten Hag needs to focus on reducing the number of chances conceded, being more clinical in front of goal, and achieving greater consistency in performances. He argues that while Ten Hag has proven capable of winning cups, consistent and improved performances throughout the season are essential for his job security.
Currently viewed as underdogs for the Premier League top four, United has qualified for the Europa League through their FA Cup win. The team is set to strengthen its defense with the imminent arrival of Bayern Munich defenders Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui, who will join for a combined £60 million.
Both new signings are expected to feature in United’s Premier League opener against Fulham at Old Trafford on Friday, which will be a crucial test for Ten Hag’s revamped squad.
