Fabrizio Romano reports that Everton are now targeting a move for a ‘really good’ Manchester City player.
Manchester City bid farewell to several players during the summer transfer window.
Last month, after Sergio Gomez joined Real Sociedad, another Manchester City player, Julian Alvarez, made his way to Spain by signing with Atletico Madrid. Meanwhile, players like Taylor Harwood-Bellis, Tommy Doyle, Micah Hamilton, and Liam Delap have secured permanent moves to various English clubs.
As the summer transfer window nears its close, new details have emerged about another English club’s interest in a current member of Pep Guardiola’s squad. In an interview with Give Me Sport, Fabrizio Romano discussed Everton’s interest in Kalvin Phillips, revealing that the Toffees have already reached out to those close to the player to gauge his situation. Romano mentioned that while Everton are interested, no deal is close to completion as it remains early in the process. Phillips, who spent the latter half of last season on loan at West Ham United, is back with Manchester City as they prepare for the new season. Despite Guardiola praising Phillips as a “really good” player when given a full view of the pitch, the midfielder did not feature in City’s recent Community Shield win over Manchester United, despite playing regularly during their pre-season tour of America.
Given Phillips’ uncertain prospects of regular playing time at City this season, a move to a club like Everton, either on loan or permanently, where he could get consistent minutes, might be the best solution.
