Following Bayern Munich’s victory over Manchester United, manager Thomas Tuchel issues a daring statement

In the Champions League on Tuesday, Bayern Munich defeated Manchester United 1-0 at Old Trafford.

In Thomas Tuchel’s opinion, Bayern Munich’s Champions League performance this season against Manchester United was their best.

Tuchel selected his best team despite Bayern having already won Group A in the Champions League prior to traveling to Old Trafford following a crushing defeat in the Bundesliga the previous weekend.

The likes of Harry Kane, Manuel Neur, Leroy Sane, Jamal Musiala and Kingsley Coman all started the match and it was the latter who broke the deadlock in the second half to make it 1-0 to Bayern. United struggled to create any clear-cut chances throughout the 90 minutes and the defeat condemned them to crash out of European competition before Christmas.

“It was one of our best performances in the Champions League this season, the level of concentration and the level of defensive actions and winning duels, so this is the attitude we’re looking for,” Tuchel told TNT Sports.

“We didn’t have it last weekend, but it’s about showing a reaction and the team did that. Now it’s on us to keep that level.”

Bayern goalkeeper Neur added: “We were very angry about our performance against Frankfurt. We showed a reaction today. The coach was very happy; he said he was proud on the sidelines. We gave everything and that’s why we won today.

Every competition requires us to put in our best effort. Our squad is undoubtedly capable of contending for the championship.”

“It was a very good ending [to the group stage] and a very good performance,” declared Coman, the match winner. [I don’t score] very often, but I’m glad it went in because I maintained my composure.

“We are thrilled to have advanced to the next phase. There are teams there that we are aware of. We are aware that in past seasons, we have come a long way. We wish to succeed once more.”
