Virgil van Dijk, the captain of Liverpool, is a vital member of the team, and Jürgen Klopp has praised him for being among the best defenders in the world.

Van Dijk scored his 20th goal for the team during the midweek victory over Sheffield United at Bramall Lane. Van Dijk was named the Reds’ new captain in the summer.

His excellent play in the middle of defense this year has contributed to the team’s encouraging start to the 2023–24 season, as Klopp’s squad has racked up 34 points in the top division.

Liverpool will move up to the top of the division, at least momentarily, if they win their trip to Selhurst Park on Saturday lunchtime to play Crystal Palace. The Reds have only lost one Premier League match thus far.

When asked how important Van Dijk has been to his team’s strong play, Klopp responded, “It always was [and] will always be; Virg is the best defender in the world,” at Friday’s pre-match press conference.

” Did he have fewer lucky charms? Indeed. [However] I would be extremely delighted to meet a [player] if you could identify one who has never had [that]. Honestly, I think that’s probably how we’re all.

“Although we don’t mean to place the blame on him, were the Rio Ferdinands on Earth always good people? or Sami Hyypia, Jaap Stam, or anything else?

“Were they ever faultless? There was and never will be anyone. Therefore, yes, Virg in that form is extremely, extremely important to us”
