Liverpool will not sign João Palhinha of Fulham.
In relevant news, it seems that some people believed Liverpool might sign João Palhinha in January.
Following Fabinho’s departure, Liverpool was in dire need of a new defensive midfield player, and during the summer, there were rumors circulating about a possible connection with Fulham’s 28-year-old Portuguese player João Palhinha.
The links were mostly functioning properly. His age was one thing. Furthermore, his alleged £70 million price tag. Thirdly, he may have been the worst midfield player Liverpool was linked to when it came to the ball.
But despite that he was deep into his prime years and overpriced compared to his skillset and track record and that that skillset and track record didn’t make him look like a Liverpool player, well, there was certainly some chatter.
That chatter disappeared when he looked set to join Bayern Munich, and while that move in the end fell through there’s been a general assumption in the land of rumour mongering that he will belatedly join the German giants in January.
And Liverpool won’t be vying for him this time, in case you were wondering. Not that they were presumably in the running the last time either. Not that Palhinha had been seriously linked in the last few weeks.
Nevertheless, that’s the narrative from David Lynch of This Is Anfield, who wants everyone to know the Reds aren’t interested. To be honest, we had no idea that anyone still had that notion about us. Regardless, though, I think it’s a good idea to resolve that.
