Manchester City Eye Celtic’s Kyogo Furuhashi as Potential Replacement for Julian Alvarez
Manchester City are reportedly considering Celtic forward Kyogo Furuhashi as a potential replacement for Julian Alvarez, who recently made a high-profile £82 million move to Atletico Madrid. The Premier League champions are exploring options to fill the gap left by Alvarez but have yet to make a definitive decision on any specific player.
City’s interest in Furuhashi highlights their proactive approach in the transfer market. The Japan international has been impressive since joining Celtic in 2021 under former manager Ange Postecoglou, who previously managed him at Yokohama F. Marinos. Furuhashi, who recently signed a new four-year contract with Celtic extending until 2027, has scored 73 goals in 135 appearances and secured seven major titles with the Scottish Premiership side.
In addition to Furuhashi, Manchester City have also shown interest in other players. Sky Sports News reports that Crystal Palace’s Eberechi Eze is on City’s radar, and there have been discussions about potentially re-signing Ilkay Gundogan from Barcelona. Gundogan, who was instrumental during his first stint with City, has been made available for transfer by the La Liga club.
Celtic have strengthened their attacking options with the recent £9.5 million acquisition of Adam Idah from Norwich City. Idah, who signed a five-year deal with Celtic, had a notable loan spell last season, scoring nine goals in 19 appearances and contributing significantly to Celtic’s Scottish Cup victory with a decisive goal in the final against Rangers.
As Manchester City continue their search for the ideal replacement for Alvarez, Furuhashi’s name has emerged as a strong candidate, reflecting the club’s commitment to maintaining their competitive edge in both domestic and European competitions.
