Manchester City set to move for Dani Olmo?

RB Leipzig playmaker Dani Olmo has been frequently linked to Manchester City this summer, especially after his impressive performance for Spain in the European Championships. However, reports about City’s interest have become conflicting.

Spanish publication AS claims that Manchester City is poised to make a strong move for Olmo, suggesting it could be his destiny to play under Pep Guardiola after the tournament. AS reports that City is “expected to move with force” to sign the Spanish international.

In contrast, Alex Crook reported on his X account that Manchester City has no interest in signing Olmo, disputing other claims. According to Crook, City won’t be pursuing the RB Leipzig midfielder.

This conflicting information has created uncertainty around City’s interest in Olmo. Despite his long-standing links to the club, there might not be room for him in Guardiola’s current squad. No players have left Manchester City so far this summer, and their squad is already packed with attacking talent, including Kevin De Bruyne, Phil Foden, Bernardo Silva, Oscar Bobb, Jack Grealish, and Jeremy Doku. Adding Olmo would further complicate the playing time distribution.

Pep Guardiola’s preference for a smaller squad might support Crook’s report. However, the situation could become clearer soon. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano recently mentioned that Olmo’s release clause has been extended to July 20. By then, it should be evident if City will activate the clause to sign Olmo. If not, the date will pass without any action from the champions.
