Manchester United Receive Significant Boost for Manuel Ugarte as €30 Million Deal for Departing Star Finalized

Manchester United have received a significant boost in their pursuit of Manuel Ugarte, with the club agreeing a €30 million (£25.4m; $33.6m) deal with Napoli for the sale of midfielder Scott McTominay. The transfer is set to provide United with crucial funds to advance their recruitment plans, particularly their interest in the Uruguayan international.

The agreement with Napoli, though finalized, is contingent on resolving terms with McTominay, who has 12 months remaining on his current contract. As a homegrown player, McTominay’s departure would be recorded as ‘pure profit’ for United, a financial benefit that will aid in meeting Financial Fair Play regulations and supporting further acquisitions.

With the summer transfer window closing in just five days, Erik ten Hag remains focused on strengthening his squad, especially in central midfield. The agreement to sell McTominay puts United in a strong position to finalize a deal for Ugarte, a player they have identified as a key target.

Napoli’s sporting director, Giovanni Manna, has been in England this week, seeking to complete a Premier League recruitment sweep that includes potential moves for Chelsea’s Romelu Lukaku and Brighton’s Billy Gilmour.

McTominay, who had a standout season for United last year, scoring 10 goals, had previously been linked with a move to West Ham. Despite his strong performance, the 27-year-old has been deemed surplus to requirements. His appearance in United’s 2-1 defeat to Brighton is expected to be his final game for the club.

United have already invested significantly this summer, with new signings including Matthijs de Ligt, Noussair Mazraoui, and Joshua Zirkzee, all sanctioned by the club’s revamped backroom team. The potential arrival of Ugarte would add another crucial piece to Ten Hag’s evolving squad.
