Manchester United Target Ugarte Left Out of PSG Squad for Second Straight Match

Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Manuel Ugarte has been left out of the squad for the second consecutive match, fueling speculation about his potential transfer to Manchester United. On Friday, PSG is set to face Montpellier in their 2024-25 Ligue 1 home fixture, but the absence of Ugarte and Carlos Soler from the official squad announcement has raised eyebrows.

Reports suggest that Manchester United is close to finalizing a £51 million (€60 million) deal for Ugarte, with an agreement between the clubs expected soon. PSG signed the Uruguayan international from Sporting CP last year for a similar fee but is reportedly open to selling him due to manager Luis Enrique’s concerns about his fit within the team’s current setup.

Ugarte, who was a regular starter early in his PSG career, has seen his role diminish over time. Last Friday, he was also absent from the squad for PSG’s season opener against Le Havre. During his debut season, Ugarte made 37 appearances and provided three assists, but his position in the team has become uncertain following the club’s recent signings, including Joao Neves from Benfica.

Meanwhile, Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag is reportedly keen on adding Ugarte to his squad, especially following a disappointing season for Casemiro. The Red Devils have been active in the transfer market, securing deals for several players, including Joshua Zirkzee, Leny Yoro, and former Bayern Munich stars Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui.

As the transfer window enters its final days, ten Hag emphasized the importance of patience, stating that the club will continue to work hard to strengthen the squad. The potential arrival of Ugarte could be one of the final pieces in United’s summer transfer business.
