Star set to finalize £15.4m agreement following negotiations to join Man Utd – Report

Manchester United have been linked with several central defenders recently. They successfully signed Leny Yoro from LOSC Lille, but the young Frenchman has unfortunately sustained an injury that will sideline him for three months.

With Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof, Lisandro Martinez, and Jonny Evans all having faced injury issues over the past year, United’s defense appears vulnerable and in need of reinforcements.

To address this, United might turn to a low-cost option in the form of a free-agent Spanish central defender. According to journalist Maximo de la Cruz from *El Sevillista*, United have initiated contact with the representatives of former Atletico Madrid defender Mario Hermoso, who is currently without a contract.

Hermoso, a versatile 29-year-old Spaniard who has played under Diego Simeone, can operate as both a central defender and a left-back. He would be a budget-friendly addition to United’s squad, providing much-needed depth.

Reportedly, Hermoso is seeking a three-year contract worth €6 million per year, which would cost United around £15.4 million in total. While negotiations are still in the early stages, the fact that Hermoso is a free agent could expedite the process.

Though Hermoso might not be a starting-caliber player for United, he could be an excellent option off the bench for Erik ten Hag, who needs as many options as possible to cover for injuries. Hermoso’s demands are reasonable, and the signing could make sense for United, though it remains to be seen if they can finalize the deal.
