The reality of Ivan Toney’s potential move to Manchester United as Brentford reluctantly set a £50m price tag.

Manchester United’s pursuit of Brentford striker Ivan Toney this summer appears to be faltering, with recent developments suggesting a move to Old Trafford is increasingly unlikely. Toney, who has expressed a desire to join a top club challenging for Premier League titles, has been a prominent target for United as they look to bolster their attacking options.

Since returning from a betting ban in January, the England international has made it clear he wants a transfer to a “big club” before his career wanes. His absence from Brentford’s squad in their 2-1 victory over Crystal Palace on Sunday fueled speculation about his future. Brentford manager Thomas Frank cited ongoing transfer talks as the reason for Toney’s exclusion, noting that the club has shown it can manage without him.

Despite United’s interest, the Times reports that Brentford is now prepared to sell Toney, with Saudi Pro League club Al Ahli emerging as the frontrunners. Brentford is reportedly seeking a £50 million fee for their star striker, a sum that reflects their reluctance to part with him.

For Manchester United, the focus seems to be shifting away from signing a forward. With only Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee currently available as recognized strikers, the club is unlikely to make another attacking signing this summer. Instead, United’s attention is expected to be on acquiring a central midfielder, with a potential move for PSG’s Manuel Ugarte being postponed until an existing player, likely Scott McTominay, is sold.

As the transfer window progresses, it seems Toney’s future may lie in Saudi Arabia rather than with Manchester United, with Brentford ready to part ways if their valuation is met.
