Top player reportedly negotiating a dramatic return to Manchester City; Guardiola set for contract offer doubling his salary

Manchester City could be on the verge of a stunning reunion with Ilkay Gundogan, who is reportedly discussing a return to the Etihad. Gundogan, a key figure during his previous stint from 2016 to 2023, played a pivotal role in City’s successes, including winning a Champions League, five Premier League titles, two FA Cups, and four League Cups. After leaving City for Barcelona in July 2023, where he has since made 51 appearances with five goals and 14 assists, Gundogan appears unsettled as Barcelona struggles to compete with Real Madrid’s dominance and new signings.

Recent reports suggest Gundogan has reached out to Manchester City about the possibility of rejoining the club. The response from City was favorable, indicating they are open to a potential deal. Barcelona, who would prefer not to stand in Gundogan’s way, might agree to let him go, although they seek a significant fee given that he has a year left on his contract.

Additionally, Manchester City face a critical decision regarding Pep Guardiola, whose contract expires at the end of the season. With rumors linking Guardiola to a high-paying role in Saudi Arabia, where his salary could double to £770,000 per week, City is keen to secure him with a new three-year deal offering a pay increase, though not as substantial as the Saudi proposal. Guardiola has until Christmas to decide his future, with the England job also a potential option if he chooses to seek new challenges.
